Let me start by wishing everyone a Happy New Year, I had a fantastic New Years Eve! I was able to spend it with all my close friends, which was great as I won't be seeing many of them for over five months!
Now, as I'm sure I've mentioned (probably a bit too much due to my excitement!), I am now in Australia. Every year my coach, Michelle, takes our squad out here for up to five months. Why? Because escaping the British winter is very sensible! I believe it is much easier to be consistent with your training when you're in a warmer climate. I firmly believe that consistency is the key. To be fair, the weather in the UK has not been as bad over the past few months. But there's no starting your training day at 5am (unless your swimming!) and finishing it when it outside when it's still light at 6pm. For me, the winter brings lots of potential interruptions such as illness or accidents! Last year I had a nasty bike crash on the ice which interrupted my training for six weeks. There's no snow or ice down under that's for sure. So I'm really excited about my block out here. I just want to string together three and a half months of very consistent training before I start racing. I also know that I can get pretty fit when training in the heat. I remember how much fitness I gained after training in the heat chamber in 2008. The heat makes you fitter and mentally tougher too! I'm very lucky to be part of such a fantastic squad too, it's like a family and we all stick by each other.
I will be sure to keep you updated with my Gold Coast news!
Here's to a fantastic 2012!
